Warning: Rooting a device automatically voids the warranty. We assume you know what you are doing and we shall not take any responsibility if your device blows up in your face. Be warned.

TWRP 3.0 for ASUS Zenfone Max:
Download link for TWRP and stock recovery:

Note: The phone must first be rooted to install TWRP.
Instructions:
Download the files needed from the link. The TWRP 3.0 is the one named Z010_3.0.0t1.img.
Copy the .img file to the internal SD Card.
Install Rashr, then run the app.
Click on "Recovery from Storage"
Scroll to and click on Z010_3.0.0t1.img
Reboot to recovery
Phone will boot to TWRP.
Unrooting Zenfone MAX:
New official updates are scheduled to be released soon and the phone has to be unrooted for them to be installed.
Download stock firmware here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Zen...10.56-user.zip
Follow TWRP instructions above to flash stock recovery.
Download stock firmware and place it in internal SD Card.
Reboot to Stock Recovery and Apply Update from SD Card
Select UL-ASUS_Z010-WW-12.8.10.56-user.zip and flash it.
Reboot Phone.
You can now install the updates.
After installing updates, you can re-root the phone
